Hello and welcome to the web site dedicated to Daniel Lucio's election to the U.S. House of Representatives in District 6 of Texas. Abraham Lincoln described our country's government as "for the people, by the people, of the people." This tells me that we live in a country where the people select its leaders. All those who seek to be elected are among the people. Most importantly, the duty accompanying the office of the selected is aimed at benefiting and safeguarding the well being of the people of the United States of America. This is how our government should work. But this is not how our American government is working. |

It is true that we elect our leaders. But how much of us participate in the most basic right of citizenship? The Federal Election Commission reports that in the year 2000 48.7% of those who are of voting age did not vote in the Presidential election. It also states that 32.5% of those registered to vote did not vote for the Presidential election. This translates into roughly 100 million people who were of voting age but did not participate in the vote of our nations highest elected office. These 100 million un-cast votes are roughly equal to the number of votes cast for Al Gore and George W. Bush combined. What is the cause of this enormous Voter Apathy? Too many of the American people are disenchanted with our nation's leaders. Too many of the American people are unconvinced by Republican and Democrat rhetoric. Too many of the American people do not want to participate in choosing "the guy that isn't as bad as the other guy". To cure Voter Apathy, To increase voter turnout, To truly achieve a government "by the people", we the people need a greater selection of better choices. I, Daniel Lucio, am a better choice. It is also true that the government we end up with is technically of the people. Our Congressmen and Congresswomen are indeed citizens of the United States. But how representative is our government? It does not take a degree in statistics to realize that people are underrepresented. We have all heard that African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Women, and others are inadequately represented in Congress. Perhaps the greatest underrepresented segment of the American People are those who work hard for little pay. On the other hand, millionaires are over represented by a factor of 3000%. In American Government spending is winning. This is not a government of the people, it is a government of the rich. Too many of our elected officials value their position greater than the opportunity to serve their country. The rise of the millionaires club is an alarm. Is someone worthy to hold office simply because of their net worth? No. I do not believe that the wealthy few have some innate or divine ability which allows them to govern more effectively or ethically. I do not believe that a disproportionately wealthy congress is beneficial for America. Our Congress, our government is drifting away from Honest Abe's description of a government "of the people". I, Daniel Lucio, am truly a man of the people. And finally, is American government for the people? Birds of a feather flock together. People look after their own. Wealthy people have wealthy friends. And friends stick up for each other. This fraternity of wealth in government is concerned with protecting its own position, and the position of its highly placed friends. The "haves" benefit far more than the "have-nots" from the policies of our government. It is a government where if you put enough money in, as Kenneth Lay of Enron discovered, you can dictate policy to the American President as easily as to one of your many executive secretaries. Campaign fundraisers equate to little more than a legalized bribe. This so called Campaign Finance reform is a joke allowing the most wealthy to contribute the most money to politics. It is no secret; if you have money you can have impact on policy making. Money should be completely taken out of the campaign equation. Those who donate should be unknown to the candidate. Otherwise you will remain with elected officials who trade votes for cash, who sell our future to the highest bidder, and who defile the sanctity of our Constitution. Today's government is one for the wealthy and the privilege. Electing me, Daniel Lucio, would be a voice for the people, rich or poor. If you are unsatisfied with the current government, we can not blame the President, Senate, or House of Representatives. We put them in their seats. Whether by action, or apathy, the government we receive is the one we earned. But we have the chance, the duty, and the power to rid our country of those who seek to luster the shine of our great nation. This November voting for me, Daniel Lucio, will send a clear message to those who are unworthy of the office bestowed upon them. We are mad as hell, and we aren't going to take it anymore. |
